Finding the right combat abilities in Elden Ring can drastically alter your offensive capabilities during challenging encounters. Among the most versatile melee skills available early to mid-game is the Ash of War: Sword Dance, known for its swift forward movement and fluid slashing combinations. Understanding where to find this item allows players to incorporate high stance damage and mobility into their preferred build.

Where to Find the Sword Dance Ash of War

The Sword Dance Ash of War is located in the southwestern region of Liurnia of the Lakes. Players can reach this area by traveling south from the Revenger's Shack Site of Grace toward the cliffside beneath the local Minor Erdtree. Heading down the narrow path that winds around the base of the mountain will lead you directly toward the objective.

As you descend along the lower ledge, you will notice several glowing jellyfish floating near the pathway. These passive creatures indicate that you are following the correct route toward the cliffside overhang. Keep moving forward along this rocky track until you spot a creature scurrying nearby.

How to Obtain Sword Dance from the Teardrop Scarab

Unlike abilities acquired through chest loot or defeat of major bosses, Sword Dance is dropped by a specific Teardrop Scarab. The scarab rests along the central portion of the dirt path under a low stone archway. Because scarabs vanish quickly when approached, riders should charge in fast using Torrent to defeat it before it escapes.

A single well-timed mounted attack or quick ranged spell will defeat the scarab instantly. Once eliminated, the Ash of War: Sword Dance is immediately added to your inventory. If the scarab happens to burrow into the ground and disappear, simply rest at the nearest Site of Grace to reset its position.

Combat Mechanics and Weapon Compatibility

Sword Dance provides the Keen affinity by default, making it an excellent choice for Dexterity-focused builds. When activated, your character rapidly closes the distance to perform a pair of upward spinning strikes. Pressing the skill button a second time follows up with a heavy downward slash to break enemy guards.

This skill can be applied to a wide selection of armament types, including standard swords, axes, and slashing polearms. However, colossal weapons and great spears are excluded from equipping this maneuver due to weight limitations. Incorporating this skill into your arsenal offers reliable range control and rapid physical damage output during tight combat scenarios.
